Taare Zameen Par; Could you get the means …..

Some people were even more sure than me that I’ll come up with my take over this and here I am, proving them very right. Sure it was like master piece that I started typing these words just after watching the first 20 mins of movie. I think its going to be kind of encyclopedia for kid’s world in Hindi Cinema. I really could guess that what it takes to create a concept into a movie and the perfectionist is no where lesser than the punch, he was with in RDB.

The very first question was that how could such a movie carry people’s interests without any lead actress or so called filmy formulas? Here the credits of the perfectionist Amir Khan came into play and he was really an enigma, who taken this project and matured it at a level that now touching the wont be ever easy. A simple concept, a boy who was careless about reading/writing and hearing his parents, gets boarding in punishment and magical teacher does the magic to get him back in rights ways. Was all this much simple? Do you think that you understand it? Think again.

I was moved with the work of Deepa Bhatia as she has taken care of almost all sensitive sides of a silent thinking mind. I started writing this review after first 20 mins and like his mother, I was in tears, when she turns the pages of his drawing book after putting him in boarding and see his picture moving away from his parents. Minute by minute, I was feeling the silent emotions and moreover was much impressed by the way of rendering the same. I was in pain and really moved, when Ishan takes rounds of sport field on arrival of his parents in boarding school.

Second half started with entry of Amir as temporary teacher in boarding school and I was conscious that if after the light entry of himself in dressing of joker, the same is going to loose momentum? But ….. but think you are trying to write your opinions over this movie….. I could bet you will get a full stop …. A complete full stop, when Amir says, he will be lost. I just felt the same, I just felt and my hands trembled that if I could do justice with my writing over this movie. I really was able to feel the emotions of Ram Shankar Nikumb (Amir Khan) that could he do justice with the boy and could stop him from getting lost?

Amir heads of to you and your crew that you never let it down as after starting it in sensitive ways, it grows like more and more touching. As Amir says “Patri se hat kar bahut kam log soch pate hain” and this movie just does it precisely. Don’t know, we should give the credits to whom, but this was a movie for a message not for just entertainment and now I know why Amir was so confident about this movie. You will feel the reason of his confidence, when will see Ishan’s father leaving the boarding school without metting Ishan with tears in his eyes.

Amir!!! you were right, this movie will come to change the perception of everyone to look over their childern.

Strangers; Best thriller produced in recent months …

An extremely interesting entertainment, which made me write again, although was in way to write over other movies as well, which came in between but ‘Strangers’ came to be winner at the end. A must watch.

We might have heard about such a concept in few short stories and it is obviously possible that the similar story might already been realized into movie earlier but the same fact doesn’t make its credit any lesser. But putting the name for the reference “Strangers in the train by Alfred Hitchcock”

Extremely interesting dialogues, highly intellectual ways and things, which make your mind scratched, are the USP of this movie. I loved the way dialogues were here, something like I seen in Cheeni Kum, but this time, it was full fledged. Lovely…. Engaging… What more I could praise. One of the best thriller produced by bollywood in last few months.

Title: Strangers

Lyrics:
Javed Akhtar
Playback: Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal
Cinematographer: Manoj Gupta
Cost: Kay Kay Menon, Jimmy Sheirgill, Nandana Sen, Sonali Kulkarni, Kittu Gidwani.

Jimmy; in one of the best roles of his life yet, Kay Kay Menon; as we may expect from him, Sonali Kulkarni; according to her caliber and class and Nandana Sen; brilliant just like Jimmy.

The story started with two strangers males meeting in a train and then interesting conversations between them, which was initiated by Rahul (Jimmy); a writer …. I could relate myself with him so well and so it was already interesting for me and the plots and dialogues made it extremely interesting to me.

Sanjeev and Jimmy have their stories to share, their life story, what was common? What was to be common in them?

Rahul’s Story: A writer, which come to meet a beautiful girl in an unusual ways and his engaging ways connected her close to him in a short period and they got married. But as the nature, soon the same things which attracted them, come to be the problems. After coming into love, he lost his writing skills and I liked when he described in words that how he lost and why writers write. Worth hearing 😉 He started suspecting her wife along with his irritation over himself and like other writers are his silence along with the girl side silence as well come to make the things more worse. All was because of no communication between them.

Sanjeev’s Story: A businessman, who was in a nice life, with a nice wife, but things changed when she lost her mental stability due to death of her son in an accident and finally it started making him distracted to her till an extent that he come to think about killing her. But was this only reason?

The train journey ends with proposal of Sanjeev to Rahul to kill his wife and he will kill his and in this way, both of them will be out of their troubles and in this way, it comes out to be a journey of lifetime. But what was still left in the story… yes there was a big twist in story…. Watch it for the same…. You will like it… its something like we seen in “Chocolate”, but this time story was not fake in any side, but still the suspense and psychological thrill.

Lots to write about this movie and analyzing the relations, but .. leaving that part, because of some reasons. Cinematography and dialogues are the area, which could brought awards for this movie and if Jimmy may manage to get any award then it would be a new changing cinematic face. Background score and each thing about this movie was world class and intellectual enough. Probably, it’s the effect of corporate in Bollywood now, it has to be change its face for better and worthy movies. Again a movie for the class and has the perfect standard. Better watch it than reading this review only.

Mumbai Salsa: Dil Chahta Hai GenNext …

Mumbai Salsa, while watching, the first thing that came into my mind was …. the Indian Cinema really moved ahead and specially last few weeks going so so special for the same. Jhonny Gaddar, Dil Dosti Etc., Bhool Bhulaiya, Laga Chunri Mein Daag, No Smoking, Jab We Met, Speed …. Really lots of good movies and a few which I personally rate as best out of rest are Dil Dosti Etc., No Smoking and Mumbai Salsa, quite of different taste … that’s why I am up to writing review over the third one (hoping that even this time, will keep it short).

The first comment of mine, which may come to define the movie is its being Dil Chahta Hai GenNext. But now, it was more precise, detailing and with lots more space to female side as well. For the people, knowing about US Series “Friends” (Of course, the target audience knows), its really like Indian Version of something similar. It was really all about a class. Must see… Its really surprising that Metro Centric movies are so frequent in now days.

Why “Mumbai Salsa”? Movie starts with talking about schools which might have seen lots of stories of success and failures; of marriage halls, who might have seen lots of couple wedding under them; of courts, where some of marriages come to an end; and then Lounge/ Pub/ Disco/ Night Club/ Bar. It starts with a question that where this place stands for someone’s life? What role this place plays in now days Metro lives? Is it really loosening morals in lives or just GenNext, which knows how to live and how to succeed in everything? Lots of things and you will feel questions and answers from inside you, if you have been somewhere near it. I should say that Mumbai Salsa.. is not everyone’s idea of entertainment. Its really really about a class.

Director, Screenplay, Dialogues, Story: Manoj Tyagi (scripted Page 3, Satta, Apaharan etc.)
Cost: Indraneil, Dilip Tadeshwar, Vir Das, Neelam, Rheyy, Linda Arsenio, Manjiri, Amruta Kanvilkar.
Lyrics: Sameer, Adnan Sami.
Music Director: Adnan Sami

This is a movie about well settled youth, well earning, highly intellectual, well educated and living lives on their own. In terms, a movie targeting Multiplexes and Metro lives as per now days happening trends. This is a movie about eight persons; Subbu, Pamela, Maya, Rajeev, Karan, Xenobia, Shahji and Neha. Each one representing distinct way of thinking, distinct way of looking at things and distinct way of defining things, you could come up with the side of anyone of them and so they look so real, so touchy and so much of between us.

Subbu: He works for a big advertising company and definitely must be good enough at work as he came to be youngest vice president of the company. He really represents that side of boys, who hails  from middle class cities and came to be part of Metro Life style, got succeed, earning well, even got adjusted in Metro’s life style to some extent, but still their moral, traditions make them out of sync from many things. For these boys, things like seeing someone is fine, but things kind of one night stand is a totally absurd idea. They could, themselves might not be very precise over their sides/ views, but ready to raise voice even if in not that confident manner (infact orthodox manner). You see his loosing side, when in argument with Pamela over Lingerie Campaign, we see him loosing words… we see him loosing, when he come to show anger uselessly over Pamela without any reason. Was he angry over short cloths or over-enthusiasm.

Where he is? What he might be thinking? Why he is like this? You think him as not that important side of the movie, but in fact, he is the one, who connect with most of the audience. People, who don’t have enough words to counter arguments coming from modern lifestyle to completely deny them. They might being called as ancient and outdated, but want to keep on protesting as don’t want to loose their morals in flow of Metro lifestyle. He gets angry over Pamela uselessly, even when he loves her from inside, because his idea of girl is just something different. Someone cute, beautiful, confident and high on morals and traditions. He gets impressed from Pamela, but her supporting his other colleagues over now days youth’s ‘American Take’ irritates him all the times.

Do you know, this part of society will come to argue over these kind of movies.

Pamela: Typical sensitive US girl, who feels emotionally attached with Indian Traditions and so with Subbu, but at the same time find herself much confused with his ways, when get to see everyone else going on typical practical ways, but Subbu just out of rest. Probably that being out of rest invites her more. Subbu come to be like a challenge to her. About him, she always knows that she could make him fall for her, but still missing that hit.

Rajeev: Someone a bit better adjusted in Metro-Corporate-Indian-Youth Culture than Subbu, means never orthodox like him and always ready to change and accommodate according to need and society but from the heart, innocent like kids and cares about everyone and everything. This starts with her girlfriend Pooja dumping her over her career’s demands-n-‘practical approach of life’ and then in an unconventional way, finds himself into an One Night Sit with a stranger girl (Maya), whose name was not known to him. Earning 30 lacs per anum!!!!! Just think … Mumbai Salsa’s story is not everyone’s cake, but still connects with Metro-Corporate-Indian-Youth. Her traditional man come out once to say “Husband is the bread winner of family”, but still he is responsible and loving enough. For Pooja, he gets permanent Tatoo of her name on his hands and for the other means Maya, he leaves his jobs, current one of 30lacs and next one of 60 lacs. Someone, like whom, one would like to be and so in a way, he is part of the lead pair in this movie. His late ‘What’ syle… come to be trade mark of him and also makes his persona described.

Maya: The girl to take part of lead pair. The story in a way revolves around Maya-Rajeev pair, which starts in an unconventional way with a Night Sit (?) between them. Yeah not a night stand, but night sit, how come it is? You have to see. You see the word pseudo-intellectual used twice for Maya in the same movie, once by Sanjay, who dumped her and then by Subbu. Was that right? or its just being herself proud of her achievements against will of her family and Men’s world. After being dumped by her boyfriend Sanjay, when she was so much humiliated then in that state of mind, she came to meet a simple guy and the story starts from here. She represents a normal, sensitive, optimistic, dominating and career oriented girl, who want to live with own terms, with high morality and without any compromise in any place, not even in relations. Is she right? Does being herself always more important than the relationship? She has already got so many breakups. The story starts from this point and gets a high, when for feeling herself the winner, she touched ‘even more heights’ than the night sit. The story ends at a point, where she come to realize that its not the winning, which is always important, but its being happy in life is.

Karan: A normal handsome flirt, for whom, the love life doesn’t get a full stop after the marriage. He know that he could get girls even after being married, if girls don’t know about the same and so he goes like that. He is presenting Metro-Corporate-Indian-Youth Culture in a perfect and decent way. You might not agree with the same but its like that and I have seen its happening all around us. He used to have perfect ideas to make a girl fall for him, learns Salsa to get Xenobia impressed and soon he got chances to enter into Xenobia’s mind. It was once his game and usual ways and then come to be his deep emotional attachment and guilt feelings. We see him, when he says that when we again will over some add campaign like this lingerie one, then will look back that what were those days last time.. so I wanted to live the life at its fullest. We see him from inside, when he says like some confident that “forget about all that man, let’s go somewhere and get drunk” and then suddenly broke down in tears saying that he has screwed his life himself. He says that his only mistake was to love two girls at a time. Was he justified? You might have not seen someone like him in your life, but you still know that there are Karans around us.

Xenobia: Xenobia, probably the least covered in this movie from the eight lead characters. Like others, an intelligent girl, who is single and a flirt (Karan) makes his chances so easily for the conversation at least. She has a brother, who asks for money only, otherwise no relation at all and kept herself busy with sometimes Neha’s ultra-unconventional life and sometimes with Salsa classes. She came in arms of Karan, when he shows his sensitiveness by coming in between her brother and then taking her worries away by the only thing she loves from the heart, the dance ‘Salsa’. She gets a nervous breakdown, when come to know about the fact that Karan is married. At the end, she comes to decide to live her life alone with her Mumbai Salsa.

Shahji: Like he says, he is an open book and nothing to hide. He don’t think in terms of morality. Like to enjoy the life at its fullest and he define it in terms of having girls in bed and he gets a match like Neha. Thanks God, he has some friends like Karan, Subbu and Rajeev, which kept the good person alive in him, which finally spoke, when asks Neha that why she is spreading permanence around, when even in her life nothing is permanent. We have lots like Shahji, but does all of them gets their happy endings? They could, if they still have a pure heart from somewhere inside and a better luck to have good stories around them.

Neha: The most unconventional character for conventional Indians. Maya calls her Nymphomaniac and in reply she calls herself as Hyper-Sexual. Love to get in bed with any passer-by and with Shahji, his conversation started in a way, “Are you good in bed?”. That’s our Neha. Unfortunately, even I was not able to find the true Neha before Shahji and when Shahji finds her in that way and proposes her for marriage this time, then we come to see just another Neha and their part story ends here with their happy marriage.

The movie ends with the note that why people come here (Mumbai Salsa)?
For forgetting their worries, to de-stress or to escape everyday problems, problems of life, but when these problems gets solved, then … then Mumbai Salsa still continues as there will be always some Subbu, Pamela, Maya, Rajeev, Karan, Xenobia, Shahji or Neha, who will kept on coming here to make new stories and Mumbai Salsa will continue to say … “Come on people ….. let’s do the Mumbai Salsa”

So, the Mumbai Salsa ends here with three couples living happily like ever after and rest two get left to stay alone. I know that almost everyone like me and my working professional friends would be able to relate themselves with at least one character of this movie. Go and watch… don’t wait for reviews… don’t make assumptions … its one of the best.

No Smoking: Smoking kills; You don’t believe, watch it …

Before watching the same movie, I was enough interested in the same as heard about the connection between one short story of Darna Mana Hai and this one. For me, the same was interesting enough and if this was going to take same concept in the extended way, then it was sure going to be great. A few people mentioned me that the concept was just so high over their heads and the same was to prompt me more and more for the same. But I should say that this movie wasn’t to disappoint me and come to blow me of with it. I rated it something like the almighty Matrix Series. I feel proud that now Indian movies are having enough courage to do something different and intense. Don’t start watching the movie, if you don’t wish to be hooked for next three hours. I bet you will be. 😉

As the movie grew up, it was going just so well built, intense and superb that I was just so thrilled. I was really really missing something to watch like this after Matrix series. Signs, nightmares, guesses, fantastic cinematography and totally weird; this was No smoking. The story moves with the mind of the viewer, it tickles you all around to think that what in next? One side, your mind passes through the nightmares and on the other side, like the central character ‘K’, you keep on thinking that how’s it possible, its impossible, it just can’t be. You feel puzzled like the character itself and really think before touching the cigarette. I could bet that no one is going to be able to touch cigarette after just coming out of cinema hall. Do you think that any conventional movie could lasts with such an effect? No way … Hat’s off. Mr. Anurag Kashyap, you really went ahead of time.

Coming over the plot, as the name suggests it was something related to a smoker, moreover a Head strong, die hard Chain Smoker, who finds orgasmic pleasure from smoking in bathroom, in kitchen, at every place, at every chance. Could you give your smoking habbit more importance over your Brother’s asthma problem, your relationship with your wife and could be ready to even force others to take it, when they might be fighting hard to not to do it? No, you can’t, but this movie was needing something like that on the other side as he was to get not a matching side, but a ….

Some scared characters, who have quit smoking by some Prayogshala’s program, try to make him convinced for taking up the same program. Interestingly, the eagerness of those friends were making it look like some kind of networking and it was …. Was it Mr. K’s curiuosity or really will to join the program? Whatever… he steps ahead, when his wife leaves him and the game begins here.

What could you expect from Sri Sri Baba Bangali Sealdah Wale to make him quit smoking? What could be the ways …. Don’t think… just watch it. No question, no logic…. Just tell me back that what was the impression and how was the silence… just after watching the same.

Dil Dosti Etc.; Is it Indian ‘American Pie’ or ‘Girl Next Door’

Could you do three in a day? As much this comment was bold enough, the same was in turn unexpectedly evolved as the movie, Dil Dosti Etc. People who have followed my articles, knows that its not that strange that this one got me to write over it. Anyway, … coming over movie….

Story revolves around Hindu College, Delhi and one folk (Mercedes Benz Son) named Apoorv. He is the main lead and his own ways of discoveries or could say to find an aim out of today’s real life in unconventional way leads the story, in what way it is. Story as I said starts with the comment, when SanjayMishra (Shreyas) in just a casual conversation asks, if Apoorv could do bed with three in one day and Apporv reacts in light ways over it saying “Do you think of me as a white water lake”. But probably, no one knew that this will be main theme at the end. He asks, When you are young, you believe possibilities are endless,
what do you wish to? Wealth, Fame, Strength, Love, friendship, Sex?

Apoorv, a just entrant to college life, who just like normal boys, wants to skip ragging and so kept running from Hostel in nights and keeping days in busy. Difference is, he has the money and he has to spend his nights in a city, where probably no one elder knows him. A young Richie Rich in now days could look over which obvious ways, when has no friend circle around; prostitutes. Once started, it went on habbit and even when he was over with the reasons to stay outside in night, the same was not over. Was a fling with that prostitute, which he wished to get over his rules than the professional ways? Till the last day, he kept on paying, so he knows the limits.

Then he befriended with Sanjay Mishra, someone, who hails from Bihar and at least has a reason to do what he does. Have you noticed? The same were the words from Apoorv. Then he meets a college going girl Kintu, who want to have fun in life (college life love, wants to have stud around her), he want to have her as wish to have a cute girl as girlfriend, but sure his engaging thought can no way relate with the poor little girl, neither even the girl wishes so. Other character around is Prerna, a girl popped into life of Sanjay Mishra. Reason power, difference and curiousity to look over a different perspective.

Wealth; Apoorv has it as he just came back from his father’s US office.
Fame; He wants to enjoy that short span fame, when others called him stud or champ of seducing.
Strength; Probably this is what attracted him towards Sanjay.
Love; He wants to know about, but is there any to drive him crazy after being just used of …
Friendship; Has he ever asked about? His curious mind scans and investigate over behaviours.
Sex; Only things, he seems to enjoy. But its now a habit than passion or maniac-ness.

He wants to know what he wants and the journey unveils in typical Prakash Jha ways that where youth is going.

You come to watch movie and if found similar company, then make fun of it saying it porno or cheap; if found someone middle class with you like Sanjay Mishra, then criticize in hard
words, but it makes you think. You yourself think that why you are criticizing those deeds, sentences and ploys, even might have passed through from here or there? Is it total absurd and away from life? If you have the answer or even trying to find the answer then this movie is done with what this one wanted to do.

Chak De India: New National Sports Anthem Now …. :)

Again I am back over writing review over some movie and sure this one was intense enough to make me take one on it (Few of you all might be even surprised that why I am keeping quiet over the same till now). How was I able to avoiding commenting over a phenomenon, which went larger than the big screen? More than a review over a movie, it’s a comment over a phenomenon, which people come to observe by Rang De Basanti, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and now Chak De. I have seen lots of reviews over the same movie and all of them have one thing in common, praise and inspiration. J

It always goes tough, when you come to write over a thing after many days of its arrival. You could blame my busyness with my duties, which were at high in past days. Anyway, starting the review now…

Before even taking over the big screen, the same was in news as it was really a Mission Impossible to take a subject like Hockey and that too Women Hockey as the same is although known as national sport in India, but everyone knows that how much glamour in it? J The same hardly get eyes as even rumor of bad health of any cricket player makes bigger news than Hockey Team’s participation in finals. Many people like me eyeing over the same as it was also a full length movie over a team sport. We have only seen Jo Jita Wohi Sikandar, Lagan and Iqbal in that era …. And personally, according to me only Iqbal was some kind of sport oriented movie, while the background subject of other two was different.

Many like me were already digging inside the story before its release and even news papers were showing lots of lines, like how the team gets trained by real coach and how the same is a true story over a real hero. After the music release, everyone knew that the same story will show up an irregularly arranged team, its inner differences, its survival of people’s ignorance towards the game itself, tough training-n-inspiration moments, going through the tough challenges, some nail biting moments and finally surviving the biggest blows to take over the biggest victory to make history.

See people like me, take out the surprise element of a movie 😛 But the same is the actual Indian Audience and Shimit Amin; the
Director was the one being most aware of the same. Even Yashraj Film’s persons were under heavy fire after a miserable year with “Ta Ra Rum Pum’ and ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ and although it was big step to change the face of Indian Hockey from Film Industry side, but nightmares was just obvious to them. The timing was absolutely perfect as Indian Youth after a worst ever disappointment from their most beloved game was almost ignorant of games and this was the time to take on the empty slot like “It’s now or never”.

But at the same time, you were to take on a Team Sport like Hockey, even playing the characters for the same asks for great stamina. Even Shahrukh commented at one place that he tried to use his star status to avoid actually running over the fields. J But when you will actually move to watch the same flick, you will come to realize that not only me, but everyone else of the crew was well aware of the expectations. A lots of eyes of old hockey players were so desperate to see, if silver screen is strong enough to make ashes alive again or could produce enough fire to get the game in more news than ever it was.

I know there were tears after watching the same movie and those tears were of joy, were of thrill and same went more intense when Chak De became headlines for almost any game and even Hockey/ Football Teams shown the fighting spirits by winning their respective finals. The same movie became a source of inspiration and also a part of training sessions with all kind of team sports. A thing, which many were longing for from so many days, a glamour, which was never here even in Hockey’s golden days. The silver screen proven its strength with a bang called Chak De India.

I know making a finish after this kind of long start will be much of a most tough task to me in writing this review. But what to do, I decided to write all the thoughts that touched my mind before writing the same review.

Now, it enough…. Now points …

Genre:
Sports (I should say that it’s the first of its kind)

Do you know, what my first comment over the movie just after watching it? My words were “King Khan really has the guts to cross over Shahanshah.” I was neither a fan of both, but in recent days, for the second time, Shahrukh made me realized that he is something. Throughout the movie, there was no Shahrukh and only Kabir Khan was there, he lived the character so well that no Shahrukh was peeking outside. Even I was able to see Shahrukh himself in his movies Devdaas and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, but here for the first time, he was a declared winner.

The same film will bring a remarkable growth for him, something like Munna Bhai did for Sanjay Dutt and even much much better than that.

Now, coming over moments and dialogs: the movie started with the India-Pakistan taking over the final match and India was behind by 1-0. Then they looses the same and Kabir was pointed for the same loss. A few things to observe were:

Kabir
Khan was the best forward of Asia.

In Penalty Stroke, Saini was about to take the strike, but Kabir came to take it by his own, not to mention, the same penalty stroke was in place because, he got hit by one Pakistani player.

Kabir
took one of the toughest and finest penalty stroke, except he missed it by a few inches as ball crossed the goalkeeper by head, but the same time, the goal too. L

One cameraman taken note of Kabir’s handshaking with the opposition captain, but no one taken note of the same, when one player of Pakistan team shown thumb to Kabir. Probably, that’s how the media works. L

After the match, there were familiar obligations like, “look like our player are going lazy” and then the one that is there anything wrong with specially Kabir Khan? Have you fixed the match? Obviously Kabir was to burst up and tried to hit the journalist. I was really surprised that how Aaj Tak agreed to be hooked into the same, journalist made the headlines saying that the loosing captain was not able to spare even then journalist and his anger, which indicates that there is something wrong behind the scene. Now the public has to decide who is culprit of nation?

A big comment over the media of now days, who declares someone the culprit on the basis of just a few clips or on the basis of planned and planted things. Like we have seen in case of a teacher in Delhi. The same also highlighted a partition between Hindu-Muslim, although thanks God… there was no emphasis over the same after that.

After the same, there were those scenes of humiliation of Kabir, where he was to leave his house and a boy scratching “Gaddar” over the walls of his house. There was typical expressions in Shahrukh’s eye, someone controlling his anger very hardly and being desperate to bounce back. Moment was at its high, when one boy says to his father that “Papa Papa, mujhe bhi gaddar dekhana hai” and his father shows Kabir Khan. L

This part of story ends with the note, when Kabir’s mother says to him that “Son, don’t look at that side”. And Kabir replies that “You look aside mom, I have to see each and everything.” This was a commitment of deeply scratched tiger, which lead to the story called Chak De India.

After the same, the story moves back to now days time means seven years later, to Indian Hocky Association Building, with theme music of the same movie. In Board Room, Saini was trying to convince Board Members for a proper coach for women’s hocky, whose team is about to participate in world cup after three months and getting casual comments like what any women’s team will do? Why to bother? Interestingly, a female member was also shown to be part of the association, who was quite convinced over the views. It was to rule out the possibility, if including women in associations or politics could do a lot, if the mentality doesn’t get a proper change.

The conversation find a note, where Chairman made a comment that who will spoil his career as Woman Hocky Coach, when this game has no sponsor or limelight? Saini answered that there is a man “Kabir“.

Kabir was introduced again with the note “Attack on the mind of opposition team, the goal will be done automatically.”

Kabir Khan in front of association after seven years three months and 14 days; where he get comments from the board that this team even can’t survive against school team of European countries and you are thinking to get your repo back with this one? Kabir answered that I need only this kind of team. When Kabir made the comment that So, I think I am appointed then anyone could feel that this man was well prepared to do the dream.

When he said to Saini that he is here to make this team winning the world cup, then Saini said its impossible and then the film takes its height with the comment from Kabir Khan “Which is impossible, only that’s to do”

Then the film moves further by introducing the individual player coming from different states. Personally I liked the comment over the state culture a lot as this is one of the main problem for almost every game in India. Priti Sabarwal was late by a few mins and so got the punishment to take round of the ground.

Kabir started his ways from asking for introduction of all players and kept on keeping them out of team till they were introducing themselves by their state name. Vidya Sharma, Railway Golchee was first one to introduce herself by the name of India. So, here was the first lesion, play for India, not for yourself, not for your state, not for the rewards from government. Priti Sabarwal also completed her rounds at the last moments.

Next was the scene of common room, showing the initial differences and from here a showdown started between the forwards Komal Chowtala and Priti Sabarwal over a minor issue.

In next briefing, Shahrukh started with the comment that you might be the best one from the rest of india, but from now on, you are just 16 players for me, who knows hockey a little. The sessions started with running for 10 kms. Then usual scenes of individual egos and rows between the players and how the same was dealt by Kabir Khan in strict manners. Kabir Khan gets the name Tuglak from the senior pros. He fights with them by keeping them on the bench, till when they don’t move into his ways.

Seniors like Bindiya Naik and Aliya Bose were the last one to break into the team, although it was with signs of the row being continued. Bindiya was the one with ego and Aliya was the fun loving girl with colored hairs at the ends by red color, only following Bindiya. After the same, Kabir Khan was shown to be much strict over the players in the ways, in the language and also made a note that any team could have only one ‘Gunda’ finally the same ended in whole team coming against Kabir under the lead of Bindiya obviously. But probably, the same was the game plan of Kabir too as at one place, his comment was that its betters if team unites even if against me. J

Kabir resigns as the coach finally, but the table turned after a dramatic event in last treat to the team by him in a restaurant. There was a fight between eve-teasing boys and the girls… it was really fun and thrilling scene to watch in the whole movie and for the first time, it became visible that the member could fight for each other. Kabir was quiet and holding the administration persons indicating that let them fight. Team members also realized the same and Kabir Khan was back in action again. The team was shown united by many short instances in next theme song.

Next important moment was when the association refused to even send the same team to world as it was useless to spent money over them in comparison of Men’s hockey. The same ended in a challenge by Kabir to get both the teams on ground means Men’s one and Women’s one. Who will win, will see the match. Wow!!!! That’s was something interesting. Only one day was given for the practice.

Obviously girls were in fear, but Kabir gave them courage with the note that they are not playing against the boys, but it’s against the mentality and first time, the word moved into the air by Kabir “Chak De”. The match was started depressing in first half as there were three goals from men’s side and women’s team was not even able to make a proper move.

When one of association member came to humiliate Kabir and girls to stop the match in half as there is no hope for them, then finally it produced the fire in the girls and the same changed the ground. Although even then girl fall short of the score by ending 2-3 as the last move was saved by Men’s side Goalkeeper.

Just after the same, the film gets its peak, when even after Men’s team winning, there was a silence all over the ground as everyone there was knowing about the same result even before the match started, but from somewhere inside, they were wishing to see Women’s team win and they also saw a glimpse of that, when the girls fought back to come from 3-0 to 3-2 and just was about to get 3-3 and who knows after the same.

The pin drop silence broke down, when coach of men’s team with all his team gave ovation to girl’s team. The perfect background music, the perfect environment; the chairman was only one to smile and that too artificially. Once boys started clapping, Kabir Khan looked back to the crowd and all persons were giving standing ovations and even association members were unable to hold them. It was all to make goose pimple and so thrilling that I could never forget this movie.

Then it was a song with the running stills covering lots of things… row between Komal and Priti was still continued, Bindiya was still in that arrogant and out of bunch mood, Vidya captain, most of team members having journey to abroad for the first time, stunned after watching the facilities and practice level of other participating teams (obviously, they were bound to be depressed, the feelings with our Olympic teams left with every time and we blame them for the poor show, not the facilities). I liked the music as the same was running in background only, not going like typical hindi movies, but continuing the story.

Then it was the first match again Australia, which was shown to be Champions. Indian Team gets the first goal in the very first minute, fastest goal of the tournament ever. Then it was doubled by 2-0 soon. Next blow was from Balbir Kaur, who lost her temper and was to come out leaving the team less in strength. Then penaulty corner and Goal… soon the score reached to 4-0. Soi Moi was sent by Kabir to change something, but Bindiya was there to spoil the things only, no support was provided by her. In next, it was to reveal the lack of co-ordination between Komal and Kirti. We have heard so much about lack of co-ordination between Indian forwards in news paper before, but it was beautifully posed here. The row was ended with 7-0 contest.

Kabir was to be controlled one and smiling like some experienced one, but when everything was ended, then he was in front of Bindiya to say that she wont be able to play into any more match from now on. Over which, Bindiya responded back by offering even her body saying whatever Vidya is doing even she could offer. She asked that what vidya has more, why she herself could not be the captain? Kabir left with saying that she has answered the same.

The next match was kind of Do-or-Die, but more importantly with lesser pressure and expectations over/ from Indian team. First one was with detached realities and now they know the ground reality.

This was a match between UK and India. The Co-ordination was better today, the saves were better today, Balbir was in control means a few lesions from the first game. J First half was ended without any goal from both the sides. J Vidya failed to handle one attack, but Gunjan was there to defend, so again they survived. Although it was not that clearly shown, but this scratched Bindiya that she is unable to play.

Then it was Indian attack, although Priti brilliantly made one goal, but the same was with the same problem, Priti refusing to pass to Komal, Kabir was angry over it and that’s why no encouragement to Priti from his side.

Then it was shown that Team is moving step by step over close matches and a kind of contest was going on between Komal and Bindiya, who scores more goal. Priti going alone in the bunch emotionally in comparison with Komal, but even then performing brilliantly.

Now, it was quarter final with Argentina and it was told that the same team came here by injuring seven player of the opposition in the last match by their rough play. Even this time, the same started in the same way, means getting Soi Mui, Aliya and Gul injured, it was like horror at Indian side. Thanks God, there was no goal against them. Now, here came Kabir Khan in anger to make the team feel that he is with them emotionally. He says Balbir, you play your game. Balbir replied Sir, I will hit them. Kabir says, then hit them hard, break them, if they hit once, you hit twice, anyone who came in ways of Komal, Aliya or Priti shouldn’t be able to play again.

And then with goose pimples, it was Balbir in action and her anger when used in right ways, was right answer to Argentina. Komal was the one, to get the goal this time and India reached into Semis.

Kabir and Vidya discussed the game plan against Koria, which was a team, whose Goal was never touched throughout the tournament, due to its man-to-man marking strategy (should have said woman-to-woman). Kabir was knowing that the same could be broken by only one thing, experience and so he was back to Bindiya and she was given the chance, for which she was already desperate. Only now, we see her ego down and she most senior of the team back in team, where the team was stuck over the expected Korian plan and then Bindiya Naik moved into field. The magical co-ordination between Gunjan and Bindiya changed the scenario soon yielding the one goal for India. I really liked the way, Bindiya looked at Kabir. It was a sight, when a fighter looks back after proving himself. Was that to show up, how and why senior pros are kept out in games by coach? So, Bindiya was well part of the team now. J

Team was already part of the history by this dream run to the finals and celebrations, praises were all over. They got new pair of shoes, new cloths, new sticks and what’s more special was team spirit. It was much touching, when Sukhlal; Team Attendant, says Bindiya over the phone that “Harna Nahi Hai Beta Ji” and Bindiya replied that “We will die, but will win” Emotions were running high. But Kabir Khan’s mind was playing over the calculations, over the row between Komal and Priti. Luckily the same was fruitful for Indians till yet as both were desperate to get more goals than the other one, but it was final and no mistake was allowed and sure it was a weakness to hit for the other team. A professional like Kabir Khan was not able to allow the same luxury.

He called Komal and Priti out of celebrations and asked the same question directly. He gave them the clear words that they are playing for Australia, if they continue the lack of co-ordination. When Kabir left, then first time Priti made a comment, which shows how desperately, she wants to prove herself in front of her boyfriend-cum-fiancé (vice captain of Indian Cricket Team). Was the issue still unresolved?

The famous ’70 minutes’ speech. Truly speaking, I was not that impressed by the same, don’t know why, but it was just ok to me… not giving goose pimples.

Match starts… against the team, which started the tournament for India by giving them a 7-0 defeat. The ball was with Indian and they superbly shown their brilliance by putting a goal even before the first minute could have been completed. Priti was the one to get the cake. The same was enough to trigger to Komal and we see Komal Chowtala not passing the ball to Priti, even when Bindiya kept on calling her for the same. L

First half ended with 1-0. But the second half was not that lucky one and they got one straight goal and then another. Aussies were ahead now. Only a few mins were left now and Aussies were only trying to retain the ball. But then Indians got the ball and for the first time, we see Komal calling Priti to be with her in run. Australian Coach over his calculations shouts to the goalkeeper that defend by coming in front as she wont pass, but there was something else in Komal’s mind this time and she passes the ball to Priti first time ever with shouting, “Comeon, show that boy” and priti made no mistake.

So, it was Penalty Shoot out. Although film maker made the moment, when we she that Priti asks Komal to take strike in her place. But I wish to ask that why Komal was already not in those fives? Netra was penalty specialist ok, Bindiya was most experienced, Aliya and Priti were the forwards, but Komal was one of the top two forwards, why was she kept out? Probably, I have an answer. She was the best one to dribble the ball and so was having the place in forwards, not because of hitting the ball harder. When it was not to dodge many but only one, then probably for Kabir, it was better to keep mature guns blazing.

But anyway …

1st Strike (India): Netra Reddy fails.
1st Strike (Australia): Sara, Beautiful grounded shot. Stunned, it was so perfect really.
2nd Strike (India):
Aliya Bose fails.
2nd Strike (Australia): Serlyn Jones,
Perfection continues.

Now, it was 2-0, means each stroke was to defend, each stroke to make. Do or Die.

3rd Strike (India): Komal Chowtala, fine shot, Made it.
3rd Strike (Australia): Vidya looked at Kabir and for the first time defends it.
4th Strike (India): Mery, Indian Specialist. Same shot as was the one, Shahrukh tried in start.
4th Strike (Australia):
Emely, Vidya saves.
Last Strike (India):
Bindiya Naik, similar one like Komal. Made it.

Last Strike (Australia): It was the most thrilling moment, Kabir’s mind was playing, calculations, emotions, memories. He was the one to guess that the player is going to play a straight shot and then he prays to God that Vidya may look at him, Vidya looks at him, he signals her and then SAVE. INDIANS MADE IT.

It was obviously most touching moment. Shahrukh was like at top of his acting, when he was shown standing alone trembling over his legs. Watching all over and even then not hearing noise of crowd, away from Team celebrating at field. It was all so so touching.

So, Team was world Champion and Kabir gets his grace back and the same media was to praise him like anything. But the Kabir was unaffected of the same and he went to his old parental home, which he was to leave after loosing finals. He was to see praise and sorry in neighbors eyes. He got what he was wishing to get and the picture started to end here. Although with the titles, it was also shown that how life changes for the winning team members now.

CHAK DE INDIA…

It has became National Anthem for sports in now days. Asian Cup, Football, Twenty-Twenty and Chess world Title. When Yashraj Film taken the same concept, then they were knowing that they will give at least a part of glory back to Hockey in terms of commercialization, but it will do wonder in this way for every sports, they never expected. In the same way, Sanjay was not that expecting from Munnabhai. But in India, Films works more than anything.

Ta Ra Rum Pum: Smiles are never meant to lost

From where to start, I was not having enough positives about the same movie after reading a few brought down reviews over the same movie, like someone has said that it’s another Hum-Tum but after removing the fun part from the same. After actually watching the movie, I want to suggest people to watch a movie with a fresh set of mind rather than preset frames. From where you brought any similarities between the two, except the duo in lead? Chill out …..

So, again I am in with another review over a movie and this time the movie on cards is TA RA RUM PUM, which sure have specials in it to attract me to write a review. Anyway,

Name: TA RA RUM PUM
Director: Yash Chopra
Star cast:
Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Jaaved Jaafri.

The story begins with racing tracks with a little girl’s voice narrating the story. The little girl and a little boy; the daughter and son of Rani-n-Saif. The narration goes till Saif got a serious accident in the same race and went out of the circles for a complete one year. It was all about how the duo met and how they get married along with the success story of Saif as a Care Racing Champ wining 50 Championships.

One thing which I personally found very impressive about the movie was the positive attitude and amazing control over emotions by its characters. I want to mention a few scenes, which could be mentioned as a must watch for the movie:

  1. When before starting first race, Saif look out for Rani (who was not looking much interested in this all racing stuff till that moment) and got her first convincing eyes that she is with him. Yes!!! One could do wonder for such a pair of eyes. Heads off to spirit of love.

  2. When after Saif’s accident, Rani walks down from the steps for taking him to hospitals. There were no hysterical cries in her eyes, but a very well balanced attitude assuring her kids and telling the elder one to care for younger, while she returns. I don’t know, whether you find it worthy or not, but for me, it’s a special. Special to inspire, special to remember.

  3. When after being attacked by opponent racer in his comeback race, Saif get reminded of the last accident and then his legs get loose from accelerator and he apparently slipped to the last. Even Rani felt, what’s going on in his mind. Special was when, he tries to convince Rani very positively that nothing wrong and he is fine. A little instance but look the same more closely and you will get the magic within.

  4. When Jaaved says that “Bhai hoon tumhara, isiliye advice de raha hoon” and in reply Saif says “Just shut up!!!!”. I am rather more amazed with the timings of the song “Ho Agar Koi Gum”, the title song, which gets its perfect place.

  5. When Saif-n-Rani introduces “Don’t worry be happy” game to their children, saying that their poverty is fake and they are in a reality show actually playing roles of poor. At one moment, where it announces about the popularity of Reality shows in now days and in another moment, it shows the way of being calm in most drastic situations.

  6. When the kids started bunking their lunch and the younger one picked a pizza from the scratch, don’t say that you feel no pain in the left of your chest.

One thing about the movie was Rani’s look in the first half. Most marvelous song look-wise was “Tumhi Tum Ho”, I just loved the steps and the chemistry. Sure would like to try the same with my girl friend 🙂 … although other songs were interesting too, but the next on my personal chart is “hey Sona…”, its just lovely and I took it as call tune of my number, so someone very sweet could hear the same…. Thanks for making the song, just a little thing bring back lots of smile to me.

Although besides the fact that I liked the first half, I somehow missed the same spirit in the second half. Somehow it felt unreal when without any backing or any prominent sponsorship or team; one could win a race in that tough environment, where technicality matters more than the individual spirit. Anyway except the same, everything goes fine.

The underlined statement, which could be felt from all the film, is that sometime things might not be that worst as we might be thinking and there might be always a way to make the things back on track.

Means life is always like the same as it might be moving in your mind. Crying, when you are feeling everything is going wrong is an obvious statement, but smiling and making everything more bright than ever makes you living it in full.

Personally I recommend the movie for the spirit it possesses. Thanks for making the positive air around.

One more thing, I would like to add, this blog is being posted through Microsoft Office 2007 and I just loved with which ease, it didn’t take even a complete minute to post it over my blog…. Lovely…
