Layman’s take on Nokia E6-How Symbian^3 fits into portrait?

I think many of the friends who aren’t following me on twitter (@nkumar_), might have missed my quick review and un-boxing on Nokia E6-00 that I posted on June 22, 2011 at OnlyGizmos.com in usual Layman style.

So thought to put a pointer here for the post to let you all know about the package etc and for visual introduction of the device. Go read the same.

Symbian Anna preview on Nokia E6-00

While I have tried making a video to illustrate a few of points related to the feel of software, but like some of readers pointed to me, many wanted to go through the minute details of the changes in the software on Nokia E6. So, here we go.

Layman take on Nokia C7-00-You just can’t hate it

Sometimes you get much luckier than others like happened with me, before Nokia E7-00 would have gone back to great people @WomworldNokia, they blessed me with the sexiest Nokia touch phone till date, the Nokia C7-00.

I must tell you that they couldn’t have timed it more better as my Nokia N8 was on a spin with wife for one month or more and I was going to be out of any Symbian^3 device in this while. That would have been depriving me and Layman take readers from Gravity update news or Symbian Anna if it would ever come …

So, better bookmark the page or be ready with a cup of coffee and some snacks, as you know that what’s coming next is no other review but Layman’s take on Nokia C7-00. Will still try to keep it short, I promise 😛

Yes! there was some delay (just one day extra in customs) in reaching it in my hands and I was already getting desperate to see the slimmest (only 10.5mm) Nokia touch phone till date.

And finally the DHL Guy arrived.

Laymans take on Nokia E7-BIG overview from a Nokia N8 user

Its been quite a while now, since I had Nokia E7-00 in my hands (Thanks to awesome people at Womworld/Nokia) and I was intentionally delaying the post till now as wished to start the review only after getting used to it in real life terms. So, after around 2 weeks, this is the right time.

Nokia E7-00: The box

The another blue box and by putting Nokia N8’s box (on the left in picture) in side, I am already clarifying that the whole review will keep the Nokia N8 experience in mind. A perspective that most of you wished to listen.

While this time, the box is smaller on horizontal scale than already small Nokia N8 box, it’s a bit thicker. Also in place of dark and elegant engraving like Nokia N8\ Nokia N900, Nokia chosen the colorful ways to show off the feature that makes the difference, the HW QWERTY.

Sorry friends, I am not covering Symbian PR2.0 for now

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

I know many of you expecting me to write on the same, but the delay in delivery is as disappointing to me as it is for you. Specially when we already seen three products (one even in retail market) with new version of software, while we all “early adapters” a.k.a. “experiment animals” (as in words of a reader) are kept waiting.

It hurts to see Symbian and Symbian users in such state as a new browser or portrait qwerty like things are no such things that should have come to Symbian now. I still consider browser as just fine but lack of even decent input system is getting unforgiveable now.

If any of those Symbian developers ever would have tried to type for a captcha on some site, then they would have chosen not to release any of the touch device rather than releasing such a shameless input system.

Yes! I am extremely sorry, if you wished me to write about the minor details of the upcoming update or to extract the info from the official blog or videos to deliver them in layman’s language, I am not covering the news as of now.

In no way, I am done with Symbian. I still have my Nokia N8, Nokia N82 close to me and still will keep on reviewing Nokia devices (specially looking for E7-00 though been in waiting list till now), but reading\ writing about PR2.0 now only increases frustrations. So.. having a break.

And yes! like I said on April 10-11, be assured, PR2.0 is coming in May and most probably week 1.

Sorry again.

Do not wait, No Symbian^3 PR2.0 in 2011 Q1

Update 2: Thanks to our beloved @phonedaz (Damian Dining, the man behind awesome N8 camera), we have got some more updates on PR2.0 and this time it doesn’t look that bad, as I wrote in first go.PhoneDaz2

Phone

Though still no dates apart from the usual “early”, but we can believe on words of him for sure.

Phonedaz3

He also didn’t went for holding his opinions on Split Qwerty and Browser that seems more necessary for Symbian users than any kind of “radical UI changes” as of now. He confirmed that both of those most wanted features are a must part of next coming update that is coming before May/ June.

More software update love for Nokia N8-MobilBox Pro and DAB Radio

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Yes! I am not talking about PR1.1, its something new that appeared on my Nokia N8 by today only.

swupdate n8

We know a little about DAB update as it first appeared with video subtitle support update back in Janaury 2011, but that time it was not available for Indian Nokia N8 units like mine. But this time looks like it got released worldwide finally.

Laymans take-Trying to look at Nokia and Microsoft move

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

February 11, 2011 will be marked as one of the most remarkable day in history as finally against prediction of we all Nokia fans, bloggers and developers, Nokia actually announced a partnership with Microsoft.

Did it

This was being speculated since the day, ex-Microsoft Elop joined Nokia as CEO, but not many of us believed it considering the fact that Nokia just been in a partnership with Intel to develop MeeGo and was going big guns (at least in words) around Qt.

I was much tied up with my own arrangements and office works after a real long holiday just spent but there were still some readers, who wished to read my views on the whole scenario now, so I was push myself for “summarizing” that what’s Layman’s take on Nokia + Microsoft?

  1. Shocked community and outburst of emotions on “End” of Symbian journey
  2. What Nokia and Microsoft said officially on it?
  3. Should consumers bother if Symbian is no more a priority for Nokia now?
  4. What is this “War of Ecosystems” and why there were not much choices?
  5. What still seems to be risky for Nokia? What could go really wrong from here?
  6. Is this the end of Symbian era ?
  7. What about the promises made by Nokia to deliver the updates on symbian 3 platform?
  8. What about the much awaited symbian 3 overhaul?
