It got many people excited when Nokia announced arrival of many cheap devices back in mid april. Nokia C3, C6 and E5. Nokia E5 was something people were most excited about and even me. I am sure that there are many, who waited this much long for E5 and pushed the purchase of E72. But when the dust gets settled, its time to analyze that how much it really is worth to wait for Nokia E5 over Nokia E72.
Call it success stories behind Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 due to probably best qwerty out there with best battery lives or the professional looks, but people still waiting for Nokia E5 to arrive in cost of 12k INR (as announced), which still stands decent 4.5k INR or around $100 below Nokia E72. But the question to ask is, if this wait worth?
Thanks to Forum Nokia, one could take a closer look over finer prints behind the specifications.
Lets see, where Nokia E5 looses points against Nokia E72 big time …
Design: It was a challenge to make a device in a lower budget keeping all the good points intact and one should praise the Nokia design team for keeping the same layout of qwerty. As I’d mentioned in my earlier post, it was more innovative to give colors to call end and receive buttons rather than keeping it strictly white as in E71 or E72 (business people don’t like colors?).
Now what have we lost in comparison to E72 here?
We lost that shiny metal surrounding the body, which was the core attraction of the Nokia E72. Also,, but the dimensions got bulkier. Nokia E72 had a 114 x 58.3 x 10.1 mm, while the Nokia E5 came up with 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm. Thanks to Nokia, that back cover is still metallic (plastic back covers scares me), but the extra plasticy bulk sure doesn’t interest the user, who might have had his hands on Nokia E72.
More of it, we are back to D-Pad like Nokia E71 (already 13k nowadays) rather than the optical navi-wheel which was one of the biggest attractions to the E72. People who use Blackberry and cry after a year because of its bullshit trackball will surely understand the losses.
Nokia E5 is sure 2g lighter than Nokia E72 (126g in place 128g), but absence of metal justifies that and don’t forget volume of Nokia E5 is 75cc, when that of Nokia E72 was just 65cc.
Display: Business devices till now, never been known for the great resolutions. Reason is, the focus always been on the text reading, which is crispier on a resolution of 320×240 only rather than bigger resolutions, so been a standard always. Same is here in Nokia E5 and Nokia E72, then what’s the catch?
A resolution is not only about the pixels, but also about the color depth. While with 24 bit colors, Nokia E72 was on the par with best of the devices, Nokia E5 took a step back with 16 bit colors means not those 16m color, but only 65000. If only these numbers doesn’t lower your excitement about E5, then next is the transmissive screen in place of transflective screen of Nokia E72, which was known to perform much better in sunlight, while E5 will go blank.
Connectivity, processor, RAM, Memory: Good thing about Nokia E5 is in this section, where its neck to neck with Nokia E72, at least as it seems on paper. It would be more reasonable to compare, when the actual unit will be in my hands, but still it got exactly same processor, exactly same level of all around connectivity.
What’s a win for Nokia E5 here is
With Nokia E5, we enjoys doubled RAM that is 256 MB now in place of 128 MB of Nokia E72. Sure one could expect this thing to be snappy when Nokia E72 was never a let down in performance. The reason for bigger RAM might be integration of Social services in contacts and home screen widgets, but the more RAM means more advantage for sure. Next is the support of 32GB memory card while Nokia E72 supported a MAX of 16 GB only.
While business people wont care much about extra 16 GB support as both the devices are never big about media playback and video recording, but sure 256 MB RAM makes a better deal for Nokia E5.
Note that without the extra RAM, I don’t think that better social integration as in Nokia E5 ever coming to Nokia E72, even if people kept asking for. Remember Nokia 5800, which never got the home screen widgets.
Battery: May be I never exactly got that how mAh works otherwise, I could have got some idea that how a 1200 mAh battery is being told to perform better (even if with minor margin) than a 1500 mAh. Though the improvements are minor in terms of talk time, which already at a great level of 13 hours straight in Nokia E72, but battery utilizations is greatly enhanced in case standby battery life, where it stands on 26 days in place of 16 days of Nokia E72.
I guess standby time doesn’t matter that much (at least doesn’t make a difference or me at all), but it would be interesting to see with actual unit that if the claims stand right with a 1200 mAh battery. If they have implemented some good things in their firmware, then those improvements may do more wonder with God battery of 1500 mAh in Nokia E72.
And yes!! both the devices have USB charging as well as 2mm port. Did I told you that I hate only USB charging option as was in Nokia N86?
Camera: Nokia E71 was one of legend from Nokia and people loved Nokia E72 for the reason that it brings fun to Business people as well. One of the biggest attraction was the competitive 5MP camera, biggest in Business phones. With Autofocus and LED flash, it was able to serve you not only for personal needs, but was serving you a good macro mode to get snap fine print on business papers due to its sensor that works from 10cm to infinity. But when you look over E5, then probably in cutting cost, Nokia forgotten that why people loved a 5MP camera.
Camera on Nokia E5 may be a 5MP, but its a camera of lower focal length 3.3 mm than that of Nokia E72 on 4.7 mm and aperture stands at f/2.4 as usual for Full focus camera in comparison to f/2.8 of Nokia E72.
Nokia E5 has just a full focus, which means 50 cm to infinity, no macro mode therefore. Not only that but with Nokia E5, if I am right, then you will be missing the still image editor as well (though I don’t believe on it, but their official forum page says so).Video and Still digital zoom will be reduced to 4x with Nokia E5, which were at 5x in Nokia E72.
Do you think that its enough to blow the excitement around Nokia E5? Here comes more ..
Nokia E5 doesn’t has a secondary camera. So forget about the video calling and those business video meetings. Sorry
Extra features: Sure cutting the price takes its toll and manufacturers try to cut it from where its least visible or may have a direct impact.
Did you knew that you are going to miss Compass (Magnetometer Sensor) and accelerometer in Nokia E5? Not only that but you miss Line Printer Daemon Protocol, Print to file option, Lotus Notes Traveller, stereo FRM radio with RDS (just a plain FM radio here in Nokia E5) and Bass Boost.
Sure, Nokia E5 might not be all, like you felt with Nokia E72. Yes!! it brings the same solid feel and performance to people, who didn’t wished to cross the 12k INR mark ever, but don’t you think that it was more worth loosing a better camera, a secondary camera, 24 bit screen, Compass (magnetometer), Accelerometer, optical navi wheel and metallic slim body for doubled RAM, better software and 4.5k INR?
Nokia E72 Black/ Chrome stands on 16.5k or less as of now and majesty white Nokia E72 now available in India for 17.5k. What you say?

Update: The always great review from All About Symbian again adds up the confusion about E5 as the screen is sure not a good compromise, but snaps didn’t looked that bad and if people could live with a dull screen in daylights, then the recent video of multitasking, addition of more 128 mb RAM is more than enough tempting for making people buy it.
We will keep on crying that why it’s late or why Nokia doesn’t come up with E6 with same features as Nokia E72 without compromise, a better camera, 256 MB RAM at least, may be Bluetooth 3.0, USB OTG, but still will end up buying Nokia E5. Yes! it will make many happy to get a powerful thing in such a price, but still …

Nokia has given words to support symbian till 2016 like support of windows XP is till 2014. Context of windows XP here because like after end of support, XP will still work fine, same with symbian. End of support means no new update after 2016 but that’s enough long period from here. No one will keep a phone for more than 3-4 years so no issues in buying a Nokia in my opinion. They are still in business and will be.

Is the E5 even the successor of the E72? It’s half the price. I still expect a higher-end successor of the E72 with better specs and more metal. Anyway, a very good blogpost. I’m still hanging on to my E71 for the time being.
Its never a successor but a cheaper alternative for E72 due to price difference of 4.5k (not the half as you said), in the same way, C6 is alternative to Nokia N97 Mini.
It would really be interesting if they ever come with some successor of E72 in same shape as the current one. They are more likely to come with horizontal qwerty (Nokia E7), but I know that will disappoint many.

Then I ran an 800 mb download inside the phone, used GPS navigation and Video recording together for straight 45 mins. It responded perfectly without slow down. Is that works for you?
As I stated E5 is a choice, if you can live with less professional looks and not that camera freak … E72 is costlier side, but a solid thing that wont let you down in work or even in showing off against your Boss’s Blackberry
As far as cost is concerned, there’s not much difference as of today. E72 is available at around 15.5K whereas Hyped E5 is overpriced at around 14-15k (Ebay.in).
E72 definitely looks a good choice after that 800 MB MONSTEROUS STRESS TEST 🙂 and with today’s narrow price gap.

I am planning on buying a cellphone in the 10k-12k range. After much research i have zeroed in on Nokia E5 and Nokia E52 (I am a Nokia fan). Now I am in a fix between the two. E5 has the qwerty keypad and newer interface along with that extra 128MB RAM but then E52 has a front camera for video calls, support for N-gage games, a transflective screen and a sleeker body. I am counting on qwerty keypad of E5 for for faster n convenient typing but then i have no previous experience with qwerty. This is my first jump onto a business mobile from the low-end feature mobiles from Nokia i’ve been using uptill now. I plan to use my mobile for both work and fun and i am pretty much a geek so I will definitely use almost every feature provided. I also need a sturdy piece as i often tend to drop my mobile 🙂 Can you please advise me about it?
Definitely E5. E52’s internal memory is a big issue for business users, great for teen-agers and new comers in E-Series, but for serious users, E5 would be a blessing.

Internal memory is required to (may be run) n install apps on phone. Some or many apps require internal memory to copy the files. So E5 is good here.

I bought E52 for my younger bro, you can check my older blog posts. I given the same 8gb card to him in 1.1k additional price but internal memory which is 60mb only is default for many things like web cache, ovi map (huge 8-10mb) etc and runs out very soon.
Price difference between E5 and E52 not gonna be more than 1k and with 5times more internal memory, upgraded OS and social integration Nokia E5 is sure latest and better.

Now I got it! I didn’t know that Symbian^1 has such restrictions where it can only use phone’s default memory for installing apps. I hope Nokia get around this issue with their Symbian^3 OS on the N8. There was a time when I wavered towards Samsung Android phones due their superior OS and low cost but then I realised that Android is evolving rapidly (already in v2.2 Froyo within 1.5 year) and OS updates are not always available for phones with older version (v3.0 Gingerbread is already around the corner). So with Android you might end up with an outdated phone within 6 months of buying it and no way to update. So I got back to our good old Nokia and now its Nokia E5 for me. Though I still have to wait for it to be available in stores. Any idea when it is coming to stores?
I guess you got my point wrong, like other OS, OS’s of E5 or E52 provide complete flexibilty about where you have to install third party apps, but in all OS, like MS windows, the core component of OS find place in base drive for performance, management and structural reasons (like you cant expect a Windows update or service pack to go in some other place than C: drive).
Ovi Maps and updates are core part of symbian OS thats why they take place in phone memory only

Yes. It supports flash lite 4 means all videos compatible to flash player 10 will run smoothly on it.

It doesn’t has the secondary front facing video camera means no traditional video calls.
Even the shops selling E5 are quite confused. One of the TheMobileStore was having no clue whether or not E5 has front cam. However, it was confirmed that E5 does not feature Front cam. Looks like Nokia feels that 3G is not all about Video Calling 😉
E5 is not even having that optical Navigation Feature.

I need a suggestion from you as a business freek need a symbiam phone for andriod phone.
When it comes to Business then its hard to prefer any touch screen phone and hence Android. For business, battery lives, emails and call quality come before anything as none of these should be compromised and sure E72 and symbian likes win big time on this.
As of now, the technology has not progressed this much that could bring Touch phones on the same level as non-touch. So for business reasons I will always prefer non-touch, so no for Android

Hi, How do I activate my GPS of E72 ? Further, I find tha a portion at the top of the screen is Blank. I notice this when I get a SMS / have to send a msg etc. I am told by Nokia this is a defect in all E72 handsets by DEFAULT. Is this correct ?!
Its certainly not true. Can you post some pics of the same situation to let me understand it? GPS is already activated, it just need you to be in open place and if some GPRS assistance then more better. Takes around 1 min or two to lock in noisy area

Out of the three, E72 is more worth to money, specially due to Auto Focus Camera and superb build quality coupled with just-cant-die battery
Definitely E72 – There is no doubt about that. Nithish played a major role in helping me decide & buy E72. Am very happy about it. I am specially happy with the 250 MB Internal Memory, the faster 600 Mhz processor speed and the Document Editor. The extra cash U pay is surely worth it. Thanks Nithish for ur help in deciding.
E72 is really the best choice if you are not going to run a lot of apps together. The E72 would have been a Perfect Biz Phone of Today if it would have got a little bit more RAM in it. 128 MB RAM in E72 sounds ok but not enough to allow you to run multiple apps at one time.

– E5 has No Auto Focus Feature for Camera. E72 Does have Auto Focus Camera.
– E5 has No Optical Navigation. E72 has.
– E5 is having Lesser Color Resolution supporting 256000 Colors. E72 supports 16 Million Colors.

I will say no difference in terms of hardware or software. Exactly the same. Its just colour that make it sober in white for some people (though in good hands only).
Reason of price difference is White version comes with a Bluetooth headset in the package (BH-106, if I am right) and all the accessories are matching white. Thats call for the 1k higher price.

I will say that E72 is better when it comes to build, while I will not suggest the white version when in rough hands (as will get finger prints soon). Should prefer the Chrome one rather than Black of white. I always preferred Black, but in case, E72, I find chrome one is better looking and durable.
E5 seems to have advantages in terms of RAM and updated OS, you wont find memory full error ever(?), but not any speed improvement and you loosing the camera and better screen specs.
Definitely the choice is confusing, but provided front cam, better build, better battery and Autofocus camera, my choice would be E72

No, you can’t as per my knowledge unless Nokia updates their firmwares.
I have purchased Nokia E5 but shocked on the next day when i saw the irctc web is not supporting in E5. you can’t open irctc website to book a railticket.
Kindly advise on the above issue how i can get the irctc web open in E5

Thats not an issue with Nokia E5 itself, but issue from IRCTC, who don’t have a mobile version of their site.
You can try Opera Mobile 10 on your Nokia E5 and then from setting disable the mobile site view and then open IRCTC site. It will work then

Honestly speaking, I didn’t played long enough with Curve 8520 and have not much ideas about Moto Charm. Following is what I know about both ..
Moto Charm
Bigger screen, better RAM and may be a bit bigger keypad might of some advantage, but battery life is a dismay.
Curve 8520
An older processor, no optical navi wheel and again not very great battery life when you compare with E72
As about Nokia E72, then its unmatched about Camera or battery, if we compare the two. Only issue might be smaller screen in comparison to Moto Charm and lesser RAM that may create issues with heavy pages like some 2-5 mb. Otherwise, I always found E72 the perfect one.

As far as my personal experiences with E72 are concerned then I could assure you that there are no differences between the versions whether China or Finland. Moreover, E72 supports most of the frequencies, so you could also be assured of that part too.

Video call option is there for software part. Moreover, if you make a video call then you can actually make use of the back cam and could receive video calls.
Traditional video call option using front cam is absent, though video calling available in that way

Does E5 has the probelm of hanging. When compared to E72. Which is good in terms of performance. As I don’t use camera much just call lot’s and texting. And I use GPS and internet.
Definitely not as per I experienced in short span of 20 days, when it was with me. I used it heavily for those needs along with calls etc. Never succeeded to bring any Memory Full error.
For that point of view, it sure does a better job than E72 though do not expect higher speed of processing as processors are the same.

E63 doesn’t have GPS, so you can not use GPS on the same though if you install Google Maps on it, then I think that can detect your tower position at least. Not sure about Ovi Maps on that point.
As about Nokia X3-00 then it comes with Nokia Messaging 2.0 and X3-02 comes with Nokia Messaging 3.0. Both of them support Exchange Support. Not sure, if you asking for the “Mail for Exchange” App. In that case, perhaps its not available for S40 (not sure)
means through nokia messaging 2.0 in Nokia X3-00 we can configure our microsoft outlook mail box,just like Nokia E63, E71?

i’m currently having the nokia e5 and i’m experiencing the worst out of it. my phone would just turn off by itself and often hangs and i have to remove the battery and put it back on.sometimes it lags when im connected to wifi and my gps doesnt seem to locate my position. i’m very disappointed as i have saved a lot of money to buy this phone. may you assist me in solving this problem?

Sad to hear the same mate, but some how its indicating me that you are on a WAP connection and running something like Socially or something else that demands internet almost all the time. Please confirm…
If so then you need to switch to some access point based connection. Ask your operator on this.
If the above is not the case, then please revert back with the names of applications running

i’ve hard reset my phone yesterday and i basically have nothing now on my phone. no apps and default theme was selected. and after 5 minutes after the reset. it got hanged and turned off by itself. before this i had whatsapp running behind and i experienced more of this problem. after the hard reset last night, it happened twice.
and can you assist me on my gps with using only intergrated gps? because i cant get it working.

I guess, while resetting your device you didn’t formatted MicroSD. Backup content of the same, format the same too and then do a hard reset to your Nokia E5.

i have e5 you told not possibe to make video call but in application it shows video calling option so plz clarify the same…
Its an option from OS, couldn’t be closed down for a single device. Many devices without front camera has it.
I have not tested it myself but heard that Video Calls are possible using the main (back) camera of E5 (with that Video Call option). And to make face 2 face Video Calls, one may try using mirror to get that Face 2 Face Video Call Experience on a 3G Service.
Using mirror etc wont give a good experience, but true that technically calls can be made via back cam as well but not a comfortable situation.
Using Mirror is kind of a “JUGAAD” we call it 😉 . But yeah its true that it will not be comfortable at all.

For me, it is battery life. I need to be on calls almost 24×7! So I need a good battery.
The reason for looking at touchscreen was – in case it supports MS Office apps, if it would be more user friendly while, say, making an excel sheet…
So I think its between E5 and E72…
E5 has advantage in RAM but going by overall looks and features, I prefer E72… remember more battery
All E-Series come with Quick Office means you can read docs and write too with E72 at least not sure about E5. As about touch screen, then in my personal opinions hw qwerrty wins over touch anytime though viewing experience in much better in S^3 touch devices like N8/C76/ C6-01

For business ppl processor speed and memory is the matter not colors and camera.

E5 also supports Quickoffice for view and edit.
Processor and speed wise both are same. E5 has a lower battery, almost blind screen for day light, no autofocus and specially no metal and sleekness that make E72 look premium

Its not a dumb thing at all. Rather it should save some Space in your Memory Card. You can always download the latest OVi Suite from Nokia Website.

If price is your concern then go for E5, full VFM for money and if you are very specific about the looks and camera then go for E72. E52 is low on phone memory. Do not buy C5-03 as it has an old OS. C6-01 is better than that

If on 3G or Wifi, then you can make use of one of two application named Fring and Skype for Video calling on Nokia E5

I am using E5 from last 3 Months now. 2 Things are really bad in it:
1. Email. I think only GOD can configure any email in this E5. The Email setup wizard itself has some issues. Even somehow, we configure the email account, the mails just wont send/received using GPRS. With Wifi, it starts receiving/sending mails.
2. It also keep showing Memory Full Error Message albeit having 256 MB RAM. Looks like nokia has restricted the total number of Apps/themes on E Series Phones. The Last time I noticed this error, my phone was having about 140 MB Free RAM.
3. Camera is Ok Ok.
Rest all is good so far. I have updated the SW to 42.014 from 42.007 a few weeks ago.

I think you are facing issues with Emails because of operator. Are you on wap? If so then get a APN from your provider, like Mobile Office from Airtel or Mobile Connect from Vodafone or Idea Internet from Idea.
Memory Full Error messages I faced only with sites like having 10 mb for loading in showing of just home page otherwise with E5 multitasking, it was a good experience to me.

Less memory is a problem once you use mails or other things as available phone memory drops every month and you end with resetting each two months.
But no deny, if you are not much into apps and only regular usages like calling etc is more important to you, then E52 is hell of a device. One of the most solid device in hands I ever seen. Just the feel of the metal and texture is so different that, you can ve tempted to buy it. The battery life is beyond anything. The best like E72

Just to say thanks to you for Guiding me to use Vodafone Connect instead of Vodafone Live (WAP). Looks like the issue was using Vodafone Live for Email. Now Email service service works just FINE! with Vodafone Connect.

If you add all these 3 requirements then sure E72 works as best options. BB is not big about camera, neither do the cheaper models support 3G or video calls. E72 is perfect over battery, Camera, connectivity with a front cam for video calling

haa haaa haaaaaa .. e72 is a free navigation phone and e5 is not .. bcoz e5 lacks compass and accelerometer while in e72 u can use these features as in ovi maps , and compass applications .. it means when u will travel , u will come to know where u going at how much speeed using sensors . but nokia currently providing this feature in only 70 countries . and above all i think e5 almost have all feature like e72 but e5 donot support video calling . not even in skype and fring . no no no ,. not at e5 with this fring and skype . hmmmmmm

Thank you for the nice blog post. I personally have a few concerns with Nokia E5 which fortunately I did not pay from my pocket, it’s company’s. It’s my first QWERT phone and love the keyboard I can type really fast. However there are a few shortcomings.
1. When wanting to send an sms to the same person more that once, on adding recipient there is no “Recently Used”, “Call Register”, “Favorite” etc options. Therefore I always have to browse and scroll down a long list of contacts. This is not convenient. 2. If you open contact list and choose one contact trying to see details, you have to execute at least three clicks.
3. Sent message report has not details, in which case if I sent more than one message to the same recipient and some of which are delivered others not ,I can’t track which of the sent messages was not delivered unless I remember time sent.
4. Blue-tooth is a nightmare, my nokia 5130 is way better very weak connecting to Laptop. When paring is successful it wants to you to confirm connection every few seconds.
5. Biggest of all in almost all nokia phones is importing contact from CSV, it is a serious nightmare. It took me a week to get my contacts imported even if a prepared them in the desired format but it was not accepting the contact. Eventually to notice that spaces are not to be entered with a space bar but a TAB.

Nokia 5800 was sure not a good thing for browsing/ social networking due to memory limit. Sure E5 can be a great choice considering the price point and features. Its worth each single penny if you are not into camera (Sure better Camera than 5800).

That’s a low priced resisting model that I won’t recommend. You can choose something better in non touch as low price touch phones not worth buying specially if resistive.

i’ve tried both for 6 months, and there is another big different you didn’t mentioned NOkia E5 has a really really great powerful Sound speaker compared with the E72, in addition to that sim jacket is really very bad and weak in Nokia E72, plus that the Performance in E5 is Best than E72 indeed.

I am planning to buy new phone, preferably having:
1.physical qwerty
2.long battery life
3.fast performance while multitasking and using heavy apps
4.good browsing experience
5.GPS navigation
6.bigger screen
My current phone is Nokia E61i and very much satisfied with its spacious qwerty and big & transflective screen. But it has gone outdated and giving some problems now, I had gone through all this conversation and finally found all my needs fulfilled with E5 (speacially the price tag impressed me more for all features it has) but I am still worried if the GPS will work fine in absence of compass & accelerometer cos having a GPS in my phone is one of the reason I will switch from E61i to E5. Camera, Social Networking doesnt matters for me.
Other reasons for leaving E61i are:
A. Skype is not supported
B. Earpeice sound is very low, every time I need to put a call on loudspeaker.
C. when I use Internet on my phone and usage goes a bit heavier the phone restarts wether I am using the inbuilt browser or Opera, Fring/Nimbuzz, Google Maps, downloading or using it as a modem with PC. I tried soft resetting, hard resetting, Firmware upgrade but nothing worked.
Please let me know if E5 is a right choice for me over E61i.
Also the solution to for the problem in my E61i.

I will sure try mate. Just don’t know when it reaches me or public. Little cautious about its market price. Great piece of art for sure though price won’t go lower than 20k
Recommending E5 due to the biggest reason, the 9.5k price. Price will be recovered within six month and then E6 can be assessed
I would suggest to wait for a month or 2 and let Nokia E6 arrive. Almost everything is possible with Nokia E6.
I am currently using E5 but dont use GPS or use quite less often. So cant really say whether it wors well or not.

The new version is built in other way and brings life time free navigation. Things are a little changed with the new version that might be reason behind the disappearance.
Cold start means firing the Maps for the first after device start means no cached location to start from.

when i read a ebook(in .rtf or .txt format) for 10 pages(for ex) and when i reopen the ebook again it shows from page 1 but not from page 10..This is irritating..I have to search for the page where i have stopped reading the previous time..is there any solution for this?

At 9k price tag with all those loaded features, Screen Performance is not bad at all. And you cant really compare it with a device costing 20k.
Mobilestore is a good option as they normally offer 1+1 Year Warranty. If they dont, ask for this. Other option could be buying from an online store like ebay.in to get E5 at around 8990.
The lowest price can go up to 7.7k in my knowledge, not sure where to point you for that.
As about screen, then it depends on from which kind of usages you are coming and what will be your usages pattern. Check for my E5 review post. May be you get some idea

Usually the system files are not accessible to users that’s normal but I think you are facing some virus issues here. Better to go for a reset of the phone.

No risk in updating as the updates get properly tested before getting rolled out.
For updating device firmware type *#0000# and then from options update now.
For updating software, find the sw update application in tools or application and open it. It will automatically find new updates and will ask you to update.
Third option is to install latest Ovi Suit from nokia site, also create a login id there. Connect device with PC and login into ovi suit. It will automatically detect updates and will ask you to update.

I need a new phone, I do like the Nokia E5 but I just keep hearing that it will run slow after a while using it. And I’m not gonna use everything.. just texting and maybe a little internet. I do want a good camera, but I don’t really have a high budget so I thought of an E5 but I really want to know if I can use this phone for more than 2 years? I want to take pictures and I want to text a lot… But I don’t want it to run slow. 🙂 I would really appreciate you’re reply.
For your texting needs, E5 should be a great companion. As about slowing down over time, then its like PCs, if more thibgs installed and running then it happens otherwise no issues.
My ex-roomie and two of colleagues using E5 since last six months without any major issues.

Thanks for for invaluable insight. I have been the lucky recipient of 5 bad phones in a row! Loved the 1st 3 but had to swear off Samsung. Had old Nokia still working so stuck with them &got E71. Came with wrong SIM; Locked one day & took no codes- sent another SIM. All the while shutting off: if on web & got call, seemed like it shut off if I looked @ it. Phone company thought I wasn’t operating it properly but, when did check over phone by actual technician, it was faulty, too. And, of course, my trusty Motorola active & on standby,
the oly rubber on it was multifunction pad & it had dried out from non use & it cracked so it froze -like E71 often. You just have to laugh..in less than a year had to get 5 new phones. The Motorola is for emegencies-

Been offerred E72 & told it was an upgrade. Computer stolen & not replaced so memory a big factor. E71 internal memory limited . Think I read here that E72 128 but everything on web says 250. Also no podcasting, virtual or internet radio, or infrared.
I have heard there have been software updates but most folks had problems after installing.
Also heard phone itself updated.

I am using the E72 from past 6 months. I am quite pleased with the phone as far as the features go. The keypad is awesome, user friendly as most Nokia phones, features like GPS and Maps are quite reliable. The camera is very good for an executive phone.

well! E7 does better job but not cheaper side, E5 loads better but not good camera, E72 good camera but memory issue come over time for some.
for non-Nokia, you can check Galaxy Pro touch and type Qwerty phone in 10k around or similar design HTC Chacha in 15k with better specs

i am in KSA and using samsung galaxy S but duw to some restriction in this country i am unable to install Skype on my device, but i have installed frings on but not getting the quality conversation using frings with android base device, but my younger brother is using nokia e72 and used to call using the same device from germany but the quality is too good like PC or i can say more than pc to pc, but i am afraid to purchase e72 because this device is too much outdated now and screen, further i think nokia is best for these kind of communication, what is your opinion.

I think besides its premium looks, E72 is outdated.
If have faith in Nokia, then E5 is best on its 9k-ish price while Curve is a good option with OS6. Not been in touch with Blackberry world that much so cant comment over features.

E72 looks better over E5, has a front camera etc like I mentioned in post, but a lot of extra money asked for it. E5 does it all without asking much and also comes with more RAM

visibility always been the issue about non-AMOLED screen. Nokia E72 does a little better over Nokia E5 but price wise and other features wise, I will prefer E5. Nokia E63 is ancient now

You likely not having any APN on your phone.
There are two types of GPRS connections, one which comes by default and called as WAP and other that needs to be activated from Operator side and cost in additional, called as Access points.
With WAP only one application can use internet at a time while with Access point, multiple application can use the same internet. It might be the case that your phone has more than one application sharing the internet connection (like mails/ Gravity etc) and that’s why Nimbuzz not getting connection.

Go to connection settings and make WLAN as preferred connection. Note that usually applications use the settings from Web Apps, so you need to make changes there as well.
hi nitish i just wanna ask you that nokia e5 gives 600 hz processor but when i check through x plore it shows only 192 hz processor and when i reset my phone the phone memory shows 208 mb space but nokia e5 gives 250 mb phone memory.in case of nokia e71 x plore shows accurate processor speed.
First of all, the third party softwares do not evaluate processor speed properly so it might be giving a faulty output to you.
Secondly, 250mb is the total memory, but some of the memory will be consumed by the OS itself that’s why will show lesser even after reset. Its normal.

This phone is perfect for the price. The phone has all the features on the E71 and E72 with a few new features preinstalled due to having a recent build. The ear piece volume and speakerphone needs to be adjusted upwards. The speakerphone volume is really too low. Nokia must have purposely lowered the volume 2 allow the device to consume less energy. The case or housing for the Nokia E5-00 is not well constructed as the E72 with the metal crome outlining the exterior.
Where this device pays for itself is with the navagation. Its free for the life of the hand set.
For an unlocked price this device wins my heart.

E5 is sufficiently loud though do not compare it with music centric phones. Price should be around 8-9k.
As about Samsung alternatives, then I font exactly remember the model number but there are some of the models in 10k around with Android and touch-n-type.

1. I got my e71 software updated from the service centre last month. Got fresh GPRS settings from BSNL customer care however the phone is not able to read the message as it is not in a readable format. Basically the settings sms contains only unknown characters and the service centre chap is not able to figure out the problem.
2. After using the e71 for three years I wish to upgrade to another newer model but unable to decide as:-
(a) Unable to find a better phone with all the features of e71 and more. Need ur opinion in E6.
(b) Wanna try out android phones but unable to decide on the model as all of them see to lack what
e71 can give me now.
(c) My requirements are good camera(5mp or more), qwerty keypad, 3G,GPS,office applications, ease
of transfer of all data to new phone, sleekness,quick response OS, compatibility with total recall and
durability.

First of all, salute to you and thanks for stopping by.
As you mentioned that you are posted in difficult area, so I pressume that battery life is also a criterion. While E6 is worthy successor for E71/E72 in all departments, you will be needed to keep in mind that being a touch phone E6 sure will not match up battery life (rest all should be likeable for you).
I have already written a post over Nokia E6 on the same blog Which should sure help you (though my unit was white one and I will suggest black model).
Rest about Android, I will suggest to move into Android if you want to go into full touch handsets and also 20k+ segment.

Hey, thank you for your response…..I have tried to find about this so much, because on my nokia E63 the scroll key is made of metal coated plastic and the metal flaked off over time leaving the device ugly. So if you say that on nokia E5 the shortcut keys and the scroll key are made of metal, not plastic….I’m very happy. If it is not steel, might be aluminium …still very nice.
The back cover is steel for sure, I’ve checked on Nokia website.

I share your thoughts COMPLETELY on cheap metallic paint.
I also think that metal on phones is less practical than plastic (even when metal is really used).
It’s a transmitter of heat, which affects the battery when heat is transmitted to a battery through a metal battery cover, for example, and in the cold it feels cold, which isn’t as comfortable. it’s generally more slippery and uncomfortable to hold too. The phone also needs to be designed more carefully since metal blocks signals from the antenna.
A phone’s housing should always be plastic and metallic paint should NEVER be used, I reckon.

I hope you can help me with this problem: I have a Nokia e5-00, and everytime I try to download something via the deafult browser (whether I’m trying to download an app like Opera mini, a video or a song) it always brings up the same error message which says:
Unable to download *file X*
in a little information box with a sign which is a little “i” in a blue circle.
Are you familiar with this problem..? If so, please advise on how I solve it!

Hi there, I bought my E5 quite recently and I realised that I hadn’t done much research on it. I’m a student and I think this phone is quite enough for me. Anyway, I have been experiencing problems with the display light. When I’m messaging, the display light goes from 40% (which is where I set it to) to 80% frequently. It bothers me and worries me as I bought it 3 weeks ago and to see it behaving in that way scares me. Is there something wrong with the light sensor or it is suppose to act that way? Like “Fernanda” commented already here, I dislike metallic paint more than anything. It’s a silly design practice, and we saw that cheap metallic paint on the E63’s navigation key.
Why do they put metallic paint on frequently-used surfaces? Why do they use metallic paint at all?. It’s a terrible design practice that needs to stop because they always start to wear away with enough use.
Under the screen of the E5 it looks like they are using paint for sure, but I have never used the device. Even if it is metal, why make these surfaces metal? They just feel colder if they are.
I think the E72 looked terrible with that metallic trim and you called it a “core attraction” of the E72. I think tastes are very subjective because to me it’s a core repulsion. Why do I need shiny metallic trim on my phone?
I think metal battery doors are less practical too. They are cold when you pick the phone up in cold conditions and they heat too much and transfer more heat to the battery when it’s hot, which is bad for the battery.
I don’t understand this fascination with metal on the housing of a phone; I would far prefer NO metallic paint and NO metallic surfaces on the housing of the device.
I would much prefer all-plastic housing with no coating of paint that wears away and that doesn’t try to look like metal. I would much prefer grippy phones (not slippery) and no cold metal surfaces that transmit cold and heat to the battery and internal components.
External surfaces should always be plastic, but not metallic-painted plastic. I don’t need my phone to blind me in the sun or wear away its coating with time, like a cheap toy.

do you by chance know how to delete what you have previously searched for on the e5. I have searched google for things i am not particiarly proud and and when i cleared the cache it doesn’t dissapear.
I need to check. Web app stores its history in some .dat file inside some c:/private/[xyz] folder and for clearing the same one needs to delete that file but I don’t know exact folder name [xyz]
@nitish- i want to know can we make vedio call from E5, i searched in site it say we can turn our mobile and use back camera for that but it gives problem, wanted to know ,is it possible to make vedio call and when u use back camera for that does it give any problem.

I’m using e72 for the last 1year and found no other gadget to compare with it in this budget, i hv purchased 2 days back htc wildfire S but feeling annoyed as the batt backup is none to compare with also the os is so complex to use as it is in nokia, also the htc sync is no stands with nolia pc suite.
Pls share ur comment shall I withdraw to use it or which other model u suggest, also what stands for blackberry???
Android can also be easy to use, its just you are used to of Nokia. As about any other model, then nothing come close to e72 even now. Wildfire still stuck with ancient group version.
If we leave the old hardware aside then nothing matches E72 that been all time favourite of mine. Nothing will ever match E72/E52 in battery life

Actually a 3Mp camera would be good enough if it had good signal to noise ratio and auto focus. Your points about the focal length are moot without considering the dimensions of the sensor
you omit the issues about the IMAP problems with the phone, but then you probably give your username and password to everyone who promises not to abuse it.
