Is this Nokia E6-00?

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Thanks to our reader calvin, we received a schema video of Nokia E6-00. Not sure if it is the right design or not but the design sure fits into the rumors that has been leaked about this device. There are reasons to believe that this might be just a design based on the rumors, but it looks interesting for sure.

vlcsnap-2011-01-19-07h30m56s10

Noticeable is the high resolution Symbian^3 styled widgets on screen, fitting the rumor of its being a Touch-n-Type device. We have seen Touch-n-Type in S40 segment only till date and yet to see that how it will take it shape in such form factor.

The design of Call and Call End keys also fits into words from Alex68 and Eldar. The long space bar like we seen in Nokia E71 and Nokia E5-00, the design seem to have a bezel around like E72 and if specs are as high as noted in many forums, then sure it might fit into next buy for many.

The things that makes it look like a fake or just design are absence of visible proximity sensor and front camera and somewhere it look like someone taken the photo of Nokia E71 and enlarged it to fit Symbian^3 screen into it (though we seen such widgets in leaked Nokia N86 processor though), but who doesn’t love the rumors?

If you were not following the rumors around Nokia E6, then the E72 successor seems to be a touch-n-type device with around 2.8” screen with a superb resolution of 640×480 VGA screen (just think of pixel density) though Symbian^3 devices been 640×360 nHD due to limitations in OS, but may be Nokia has crossed over those limitation. It is also rumored to have a 8MP camera like C7-00/E7-00 with LED flash and also rumored to come with new version of Symbian^3 firmware with browser 7.3.

What you think about it? You can also send your tips on nitish@nitishkumar.net anytime.  I am all for it.

DAB Radio and Video player updated on Symbian^3 – better speed and support SRT, SUB (video preview included)

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Watch my favorite dialogue from the recent movie Megamind playing on my Nokia N8 with some new hidden inside …

Yes! you are watching a video with subtitle on Nokia N8 itself. Nokia N8 just getting better and better, making sure that you wont miss your video player ever again. Dolby sound, HDMI out, multiple codec like Divx support out of the box, flawless performance, USB OTG .. what else you expect from your video player?

Note: Even VLC for iOS doesn’t support subtitles as of now, can not play HD videos, no TV-out support (leave HDMI out) and there is no iTunes in middle with Nokia Video player, just do a USB OTG with file and subtitle in that and a click will do 🙂

Nokia N8-00 running beta PR2.0

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

The last post was about PR1.1, Wanna see that what PR 2.0 (which seems to be settled for a mid-February release) gonna bring for you? Check this video of portrait QWERTY, new Browser and draggable screen running on PR 2.0 probably.

Not sure about which device it is, but look like Nokia C6-01. I was dumb to call it C6-01 due to shining borders, but when he turns it to Landscape then it’s clearly Nokia N8-00. (Thanks @JosueGimenez and @Camb078 for correcting me).

The portrait QWERTY design as shown in the video might not be the final one as Nokia developers were trying more than one designs as per insiders. Personally I wish they leave the 3D approach and choose a glossy one like @Janole’s Gravity that would be awesome with word correction, dictionary, multi-touch etc, but at the end it would be their decision.

What you think about these changes? Are they big enough? What more you want?

Firmware update PR1.1 for Nokia N8 is live on Navifirm – Change log (Video preview included)

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Update: Official firmware update is already up. If not received yet, then you can download it via navifirm. For Indian Dark Gray version, size is 154 mb. I can upload if anyone needs that.

Update: Thanks to @N8ws, we have found a quick video of Nokia N8 running the new firmware, check it at the end of post.

Update: It seems that Nokia has removed this particular firmware from their servers or denied the access. Its showing but not there anymore. Either out for release or access removed. There are some tweets saying that Indian Product code 0599255 got the new firmware, but mine is the same and HAVEN’T got it yet neither Navifirm showing it in product external.

Finally what we all were waiting for and I even reported in my last posts is about to appear anytime soon. Navifirm started showing PR 1.1 as 13.015 firmware version. Though its only scandinavia and still in only quality assurance mode, but it means that PR1.1 is finally coming, may be tomorrow.

“NAVIFIRM is used for downloading Nokia firmware images, obtaining lists of product codes, and finding the right product code for your phone. NAVIFIRM downloads all this straight from Nokia’s servers so you don’t have to wait for people to post data packages and lists of product codes.”

You can download navifirm from here

Note: Who don’t know about it Scandinavia is a region in northern Europe that includes Denmark and two of the Scandinavian Peninsula’s countries, Norway and Sweden, even include Finland and Island as per our prompt reader Hese 🙂

  • Touch responsiveness: people should have receive with yesterdays’ update

And if we believe Alex68 from @MyNokiaBlog, who provided this change log, then the official release date is January 21, 2011 at earliest unlikely before it.

For people who missed the download and wanna try it before, here goes the download links

Apps update 1.0 for Nokia N8 – Change log

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

After long wait without much awaited firmware update PR1.1, finally mid-January actually seen an update for Symbian^3 phones, though it happened to only a small Apps update 1.0 like earlier phone apps update been here.

Scr000525 Scr000533

As you can see that the update is only around 1 mb and after installing, it promises the similar things as was in case of phone apps update. Improvement in applications stability.

Followings are the changes that been noticed till now:

Angry Bird, Spiderman, Quick Office showing free on Ovi Store? Operator billing coming to India?

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Update: It seems that Nokia has removed all the paid apps from Ovi Store for a while, but still the damage is done and is counting more as even the genuine buyers not able to buy any app from Ovi Store since a day now. Definitely, Nokia gonna have a hard time explaining this to developers.

I and many other users have asked from @NokiaIndia and @ovibyNokia, but still no answer from them and their twitter account is silent over all this.

I was about to go for the evening tea break and all of sudden a tweet of @freak4mobiles hit me. He told that all of the big game titles are showing as free items in Ovi Store of his Nokia N8 at least. It was a news that was too good to be true but still I touched the Ovi Store icon on my home screen and whoooaa… this was true. Not even games but everything was there for free like Nokia has gone into Santa mode post Christmas.

Scr000518Scr000521Scr000519Scr000520

I was like what’s this? Even if Nokia might have gone this much generous for a while, the various App developers wont allow this and if something such was going to be happen then we blogger would have known the same earlier via developers, but nothing such was in air.

Upcoming Symbian^3 updates, what and when?

[tweetmeme source=”nkumar_” only_single=”false”]

Even if every second blogger seems to be bashing over Nokia and their strategies, there is one thing that everyone seems to be curious about that what are those 50+ improvements that Nokia keeps talking about for first quarter of 2011. What are those 5 incremental planned updates throughout the year 2011 and what they gonna bring for you? Let’s try to catch some butterflies from here and there.

With that old community poll and design competition, we sure have a strong hint that what might be our MeeGo sweetheart hardware exterior design, even if one can neither be confirmed on the interiors hardware nor could be certain about the software UI part at least yet but you can’t deny that by these looks, its set to make people go crazy for sure. If Nokia could take a jump from 15 frames/second to 60 frames/second UI fresh rate while coming from Symbian^1 to Symbian^3, then sure there should be nothing that you can’t expect them to do, even if there would be some reasonable limitations of time and business logic.
